About The Author

Carol Sissom is a freelance writer, investigative journalist and a contributing writer/reporter that has written for the following media organizations on various projects. The Saturday Evening Post, Indianapolis Magazine, Indianapolis Woman Magazine, Indianapolis Monthly Magazine, Nuvo Newsweekly, The Indianapolis Star, The fine Line Christian Newspaper, Charisma Magazine, The Zionsville Times, The Zionsville Main street and Lifestyle Magazine.

      Her detective writing has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Indianapolis Monthly Magazine, many television and radio programs, Geraldo, The CBS Evening News, Inside Edition, Hard Copy and The 700 Club.

      Along with the above, Carol Sissom has freelanced as a correspondent and feature writer for Newman Video Services in San Jose, California, which produces documentaries. She has been a writer and correspondent for Charisma Magazine in Lake Mary, Florida. Her most recent article for them was her story on “Former President William Jefferson Clinton” and “Rock Indy” and Pastor Bill Jenkins, a pastor in Indianapolis, Indiana. Carol has received a first place national award at the National Federation of Press Women Conference for her cover story feature of a USAIR crash survivor. She has received the Thomas R. Keating Feature Writing Award twice. The first occasion was in 1985 for Best Deadline Feature – “Drug Dealing in Indianapolis” and the second time in 1991 for Best Overall Winner, Feature Writing – “Cab Drivers” –

Teenage - Suicide” – “Battered Women.” She has received the Eugene Pulliam Scholarship twice. Carol is also a licensed private detective, licensed in the State of Indiana. Carol received a bronze medal of honor, an award in 1995 from The National Vidocq Society, in Philadelphia, for “Outstanding Contribution to Law Enforcement in The United States” for her contribution in helping to solve the oldest murder mystery in the history of Indianapolis, Indiana – “The LaSalle Street Murders.”

      In 1996, Carol won another law enforcement award from The Vidocq Society, a gold plaque titled, “EVERYONE LOOKED, BUT ONLY YOU SAW.” She is also working on three books that will be released in the future: “Pure Heart: The Biography of “One Man’s Message to America” (the true story of a young man known to be one of the greatest youth pastors in America – killed in 2001) which is being written for the Richard M. Bourke Foundation: The life story of one of the jurors on the Mike Tyson jury trial, “Banking With Dillinger” – the true story of the John Dillinger family still living in Indiana as told by Dillinger’s nephew, Mike Thompson, and “The Gynecologist” – the true story of a truck driving serial killer.

              BOOK PUBLISHER:

              Carol is also the founder of Novel Enterprises, which changed its name in 2008 due to her husband’s catastrophic illness. Carol’s Adventures, a book publishing company based in Indianapolis, Indiana has sold several thousand books since it first opened.

               Carol’s publishing company has also published “Olivia Decker and the City above the Clouds,” written by Author Amanda Devine.

           Carol is the author of “The LaSalle Street Murders –BOOK ONE” “ The LaSalle Street Murders – How a single mother became a private eye, and solved the greatest serial murder case in America’s Midwest.” – and the sequel “The LaSalle Street Murders, BOOK TWO – and is also the publisher of two children’s books - “Help Mommy Clean-Up” “My Best Friend” and “The Second Grade Field Trip to the Zoo.” 
              Carol is 
also the author of “Miracles Really Do Happen” – an inspirational book detailing miraculous healings and miracle stories, including her personal testimony of being healed of a liver disease - and her mother’s story of being healed of a massive heart attack. She is also the author of “Hand Over Heart – Love Letters from a World War II soldier - - the true story of Martha Oleson, former head of the USO in 1942. 

          TELEVISON: Carol Sissom is also an interviewer and co-anchor for “Religion in the News” a religious news program sponsored by The Church Federation which airs on WISH-TV 8 (CBS) in Indianapolis at on Sunday mornings. She has been with WISH-TV 8’s Religion in the News program since January of 2008.

          Carol has also been a public speaker for the last two years. She has given talks to the following organizations as a guest speaker: National Security-Foreign Affairs – The American Legion, Paracletian, Home for Women in Crisis Pregnancy – the annual fundraiser for women in crisis pregnancy, the Geist Book Club, The Heritage Lake Book Club, The Le Peep Restaurant, Borders Bookstore, Northern Trust Bank, The Naples Yacht Club, The Kensington Country Club (Naples Florida) The annual luncheon for the federal employees of the State of Indiana, including justice department and postal workers; The Marion County Public Library (Southport Branch, Fountain Square, Wayne Township, Nora, Irvington) Lake Clearwater Ladies Coffee and she has also given talks at nursing homes and schools, including Vincennes University School for the Deaf.

        Carol has also appeared and or given talks at the Indiana State Fair, The Indiana Flower and Patio Show, The Indianapolis Airport and the Indiana Historical Society, Green Tree Assisted Living and University Heights Nursing Home.

       Her speaking engagements involve inspirational talks involving a variety of topics including: “Becoming a journalist and private detective”– “War Time Romances” – “How to Write and Publish” Writing True Crime – Healing, Miracles and “Being an Overcomer.”  

          Her books are or have been available nationally at: Borders, Barnes and Noble, B. Dalton, Waldenbooks, The Indianapolis International Airport, The Book Loft, Book World, The Indianapolis Historical Society, The Indiana State Museum, Riley Hospital, IU Medical Center, Wishard Hospital, Community Hospital and many other independent book stores and locations.

          Carol has also been featured on the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, WISH-TV, WIBC, Fox-59, WRTV, Inside Edition, “Let’s Talk” with Kathryn Raaker in Cincinatti, the Stan Solomon show and many other television and radio programs.

   

           Carol attended Grassy Creek Elementary School, Creston Junior High School, Warren Central High School, and IUPUI at Indianapolis (IU School of Journalism). She is a member of The Church of Acts in Indianapolis. She has also attended Jesus the Messiah Church in Indianapolis and Life gate Baptist Church. She formerly lived in Rockport, Massachusetts and San Jose, California where she attended The Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California. She has been a member of Sisters in Crime.

Carol is also a member of TOPS (Take off Pounds Sensibly), Indianapolis Chapter.
